With the 2024 season on the horizon, TOMORROW IS RACE WEEK !! I've decided to follow the long predeceased trend of sharing my predictions for the 2024 season. I have some funky takes for sure, most of which are coming off of vibe (with some thinking behind them). I want to go through the drivers and constructors championships and my grid for 2025 predictions will be coming later this week, so, enjoy!!
World Constructors Championship (reverse order)
10. Haas - it has to be someone…and seeing how they went last year coupled with the negative noises coming from Haas’ top management I don’t see this year being much of a turnaround
9. Alpine - they do not look in a positive place at the minute and rumblings from the camp suggest that Alpine is in a low internally. I think the field around may have taken a convincing step which leaves Alpine a bit behind
8. Sauber (Stake) - talk from Sauber seems positive, and I think they might have some good results this year. I think the lower/mid-field will all be very close and interchangeable this season.
7. Williams - similar to Sauber, I think Williams will improve but they are on the first steps of this new direction, so for this season will remain in the interchangeable mid-pack.
6. Aston Martin - I don't think Aston will have the same performance leap as we saw last year, but I think they will be competent points scorers.
5. VCARB - I have a lot of confidence in RB to make a big step this year, especially with the enhanced technical partnership with the rocket-ship the RB-19 was.
4. Mercedes - I think Mercedes will improve and I believe this top 4 will be a LOT closer. I wouldn't be surprised if Mercedes challenge for a few wins this year
3. McLaren - McLaren looked positive towards the end of last year, and I think they will carry that over to the beginning of this year, unlike the usual process of a performance reset for the first half of the season. I certainly see wins for both drivers this season.
2. Red Bull - a bit off-piste, but I believe that Red Bull doesn't have a championship-winning driver pairing, I don't see Perez changing his ways from last year and I think with a tighter top pack battling for wins, what happened last year won't be enough
1. Ferrari - a bit of Ferrari delusion never hurt !! I think Ferrari has an incredibly strong driver pairing that over a season will consistently pick up points winning them the Constructors championship !!
World Drivers Championship (reverse order)
20. Kevin Magnussen - I think the Haas drivers are going to be in for a tricky season, but due to Hulkenbergs quali pace I think Magnussen will fall to the back.
19. Nico Hulkenberg - I think despite having a tricky car, Hulkenberg will make the most of it with good quali performances which may transform into the odd point.
18. Logan Sargeant - I definitely think Sargeant will make progress this season but just not leaps and bounds.
17. Esteban Ocon - I do think Alpine are in for a tough season, with neither driver getting many points-scoring opportunities.
16. Guanyu Zhou - Zhou will be part of the tight lower midfield, much of which is interchangeable. I do think there will be some opportunities for the Sauber
15. Pierre Gasly - I think Gasly will be the better of the two alpines but again not by much due to the poor car.
14. Valtteri Bottas - Due to experience I feel like Bottas will extract more out of the Sauber when the opportunities do arrive.
13. Alex Albon - Albon was promising last season and I think this will be continued with multiple points scoring opportunities.
12. Lance Stroll - Stroll seems at an almost stalemate with driving, not expecting anything outstanding from a car I reckon will be average.
11. Daniel Ricciardo - I think both VCARB drivers will be on very equal footing in a car that is solidly in the midfield.
10. Yuki Tsunoda - I feel like Tsunoda will narrowly pip Ricciardo for a spot in the top ten, especially due to his greater experience with the team.
9. Sergio Perez - I do think Checo will have a disappointing performance this season following on from last year. This coupled with an extremely tight front pack means he will tumble down the order.
8. Fernando Alonso - I think Alonso will repeatedly outperform the car putting himself firmly in points contention.
7. Oscar Piastri - I think Oscar will likely be at the bottom of the tight upper field, all of which will be frequently changing .
6. George Russel - Russel will do well this season, but I don’t think the Mercedes will allow him to perform higher than this. I could see a win for Russel though.
5. Lewis Hamilton - I think Hamilton will narrowly get the better of Russel in a decently performing Mercedes which I think will bring wins in the champions last season with the team.
4. Charles Leclerc - I believe the top 3 this season will be very close and I believe Leclerc will get wins, but overall not enough to secure the championship.
3. Lando Norris - 2024 should be the year Norris bags his first win, as well as multiple points which puts him into the top 3.
2. Carlos Sainz - in his last year with the Scuderia, I believe Sainz will frequently be fighting at the top with the added motivation of leaving Ferrari. Added with his rock rock-solid consistency we saw last year, I think Sainz will, just, miss out on the championship.
1. Max Verstappen - no surprise, I think Verstappen will win the championship, although I do believe the fight will be closer - I think Verstappen’s skill coupled with a delivering car will be the perfect match for a 4th year running.
